Brenda Benet is best known for her performances on soap operas. Ironically, the Hollywood-native lived her own ill-fated melodrama offscreen. Even though the beautiful brunette enjoyed several career peaks, she fell into a deep valley of depression before ending her life in 1982. However, her Tinseltown tragedy did begin with promise. At an early age, Brenda knew she wanted to be a star. After taking dance lessons, the fox trotted into show biz via her shapely gams. Soon, the appealing ingenue was cast as Jill McComb on the ABC soap The Young Marrieds (1965-1966). She also guest starred on several hit shows (It Takes a Thief; Hogan’s Heroes; My Three Sons; Mannix; I Dream of Jeannie; Love, American Style; The Love Boat; and Fantasy Island, among others) during the 1960s and ’70s. Typically, the busy babe either portrayed sweetie-pies or sexpots until she took on the role of scheming villainess Lee Dumonde on the daytime serial Days of Our Lives (1979-1982). Apparently Ms. Benet was so good at being bad, fans were mean to her on the streets. This ill will was compounded by a painful divorce and the sudden death of her young son. When Brenda had all she could take, she took her own life. Here, at Skin Central, the pretty performer is fondly remembered for her part in the first installment of the Walking Tall (1973) series.
