Review

This Australian cop soap is tough to explain. Essentially, it’s just a suburban police station where suburban police business goes on, with a little of your everyday soap opera activity thrown in on top. Yet, somehow, the damn series became an avalanche for the Seven Network, scooping the pool every year at the Logie Awards (the Australian Emmy’s) in just about every category. Of the 30 major awards it’s been nominated for over the years, it’s only lost 10 times – a miraculous achievement in any industry. Having gone for ten consecutive 40 episode seasons (!) at the time of writing, it’s tough to find anyone who can accurately explain the show’s appeal. Though taking a look at perennial Blue Heeler Lisa McCune’s appearance in the 2001 mini-series The Potato Factory, I think she might just be the best reason I’ve seen yet.
