Detective Do (Jeong-min Hwang) never nabbed the drug lord who snuffed his partner, so he's out for ruthless revenge on dealers everywhere in Bloody Ties (2006), a Korean crime thriller full of dark humor, Hong Kong stylings, and a dose of noir. In Busan, South Korea's second-largest city (and home of the biggest port, meaning there's always much there to snort), Do dishes out dollops of dirty justice with the help of a meth merchant named Lee (Seung-beom Ryu). Lee grew up in the world of street retail, so he knows a thing or two about a thing or two, and when Do says "Jump," Lee puts away the drugs and takes on a new high. But soon their schemes get Do suspended and Lee arrested--and when Lee walks free eight months later, everything has changed. Guess who's taken Lee's place as powder-peddler extraordinaire? It's Jangchul (Do-gyung Lee), the very rascal who polished off Do's pard. There's only one thing to do for these two, and that's put aside their mutual ill will and kill Janchul. Lee also helps a hard-up young thing get clean, and it's a sure thing: Dirty or clean, Ja-Hyeon Chu will get you hard.
