The Egyptian deserts are utterly arid expanses and have been since the dawn of antiquity. Dig into any burial mound in that parched landscape, pull out the dearly departed pharaoh, and slit his ancient wrists. Seemingly, a stream of sand should come pouring out, but such is not the curse that flows throughout Blood from the Mummy’s Tomb (1971). This British exercise in creepiness assembled by the Hammer horror factory recounts the terrible and dramatic revenge taken by a goddess of a vanished kingdom when her eternal rest is interrupted by an arrogant and nosy bunch of bumbling scientists. Woe be unto the daughter of the lead researcher, a doomed beauty born into this world at the exact instant that the goddess’s sealed death chamber is invaded by living sunlight.
