If there’s a genre that has been almost left untouched by TV, it’s baseball. America’s favorite pastime has been mostly ignored by the decision-makers, with only the Bad News Bears, the short-lived Ball Four and the recently canceled-before-it-even-started Baseball Wives breaking through. This similarly short-lived ensemble drama follows a minor league baseball team as they travel from town to town, get in to jams, personality conflicts, blah blah. The amazing thing about this 1983 series is the caliber of those working on it – and that it was ditched after only four episodes. Sharon Stone, Denis Franz, Mykelti Williamson, Ken Olin, this was a big ensemble cast of the highest order. So what went wrong? Who can say? Not enough people saw the thing to gauge it.
