Nostalgia has a powerfully gratifying pull, strong enough to provide soul-stirring enjoyment to any former Mouseketeer or beach-blanket cinema fan who stumbles upon the sandy good fun of Back to the Beach (1987). With a cast that is headed by stalwart '60s bikini-flick staples Annette Funicello and Connie Stevens (supported by former teen throb Frankie Avalon), this open-hearted comedy obviously has no intention of pioneering new narrative ground. But anyone who wishes to take a wistful road trip back to a more innocent and carefree day need only hitch a ride Back to the Beach.
