Baadasssss! (2003)

Writer/director/star Mario Van Peebles pays tribute to his writer/director/star father Melvin Van Peebles with Baadasssss! (2003), an amazing film about the making of Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song (1971). There’s a swell story to tell, too, as Sweetback beat Shaft to theaters by a few months to become a true pioneering blaxploitation epic. Daddy Van Peebles was already a respected filmmaker, but his tale of black rage could only be financed under the guise of a porno film. Fortunately, the cinematic revolution takes time out to enjoy funky ladies such as Kate Krystowiak and Karimah Westbrook. These interracial superfreaks put on the body paint and show off the supermuffs in some ’70s revivalism that’ll get your crotch doing the hustle.
