Alternately billed as Dangerous Kiss, Pat Verducci’s True Crime (1995) capitalizes on a taut crime-thriller script and the enormous mid-’90s popularity of screen queen Alicia Silverstone. The Clueless (1995) cupid dons a short plaid skirt to inhabit the role of Mary Giordano, a Catholic-school student with a nose for snooping. When a fellow student is killed in a grisly fashion, Giordano teams with an ambitious young police detective (Kevin Dillon) to solve the case and indulge in some extracurricular fun. No flick about catholic girls is complete without themes of sin and redemption, and Silverstone’s perfect in her two-faced role as a whip-smart overachiever who enjoys getting rowdy.
