Because Seinfeld co-creator and the funniest man on HBO Larry David is now a gazillionaire showbiz rags-to-excessive-riches story, Sour Grapes (1998), produced from one of David’s early scripts, is a cable-movie staple. Aside from its provenance, Sour Grapes delivers buckets of the trademark Larry David perspective on friendship, futility and feckless white guys blundering along with more money than they know what to do with. Fans who have watched too much Seinfeld may have their enjoyment of Sour Grapes hampered by low-grade, uncanny anxiety caused by the constant and unfulfilled expectation of "Kramer" bursting through a door.
