If you ever wanted to see Daniel Radcliffe, better known as the cinematic face of Harry Potter, use his magic wand for something more intimate than broom riding, then December Boys (2007) is for you. This Aussie coming-of-age flick will have you coming in your pants, so prepare yourself by undressing first. It’s a moving and well-told story, of course, with great acting and direction, but you’ll find yourself most moved by Victoria Hill and Kris McQuade. Victoria has been showing her little hills since Dead End (1999) and most recently in Macbeth (2006), while Kris is an old-timer who made many a young schoolboy’s homework get stuck together after showing her Down Unders in Alvin Purple (1973) and Alvin Rides Again (1974). She’s in her mid-fifties here but still enchants Radcliffe’s wizard.
