The bizarre space epic Supernova (2000) was plagued by all kinds of production difficulties, including a director who walked off the project. Still, it’s a likable enough sci-fi film, as a space crew takes in an intergalactic hitchhiker and soon finds themselves dealing with a hand grenade that blows up galaxies. James Spader provides some class as the crew’s reluctant leader. Robin Tunney, meanwhile, provides plenty of skin as a horny astronaut. But speaking of troubles, check out Angela Bassett’s nude scene. We’re still not convinced that she isn’t using a body double--although the illusion is certainly pleasant. It also seems as if Bassett’s sexy space scene is really an outtake of a scene featuring Tunney’s body, with Tunney’s skin darkened by digital effects. Like we said, it was a troubled production.
