Growing up subsistence-level poor in a neighborhood where all the other kids are blessed with obscenely wealthy adolescence is tough enough without your tits suddenly sprouting to the size of your head. The alternately bemused and appalled heroine of Slums of Beverly Hills (1998) is dragged from one crappy apartment to another, a slave to her half-a-hustler father's rent-skipping schemes. The blossoming bosom owner is further burdened with a brother who alternately displays traits of the ambitious sociopath and of the forlorn schmuck. Cute, quizzical, and cynical before her time, this awkwardly maturing Slums dweller would be a charming addition to any zip code--even 90210.
