Written by the King of Teen Comedies John Hughes, Some Kind of Wonderful (1987) is another one of his well-tested love triangles. In this version, Eric Stoltz is the high-school outsider whom tomboy Mary Stuart Masterson, a rock drummer, is secretly pining for. But Stoltz marches to the beat of a sexier drummer, school hottie Lea Thompson. That’s the drama, but the real tension occurs early on in the film when Mary Stuart spies Lea in her skivvies and watches her with such intensity that for a moment it appears this film is about to take a les-be-friends turn. It doesn’t, nor is there any nudity, but the sight of Lea’s pubescent freshness gives this the thumbs up in viewers' pants.
