George Lazenby assumes the iconic role of suave British super-spy James Bond in On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969), a high-water mark in a classic film franchise. Directed by Peter R. Hunt from a book by Ian Fleming, the film centers on the wealthy head of an international crime syndicate, who entices Agent Bond into marrying his troubled but beautiful daughter (Diana Rigg). 007 falls deeply in love with the girl and agrees to the father’s request but soon realizes that his loyalty’s been bought by an evil villain planning to release a deadly virus. From fancy gadgetry to heart-pounding escapes, Hunt’s film covers all of the familiar Bond bases, with Rigg and Angela Scoular stepping very comfortably into their roles as flirtatious Bond girls.
