Girls just want to have fun, and most of them don’t consider being slapped around, punched in the gut, and forcibly romanced by their remote but overbearing husbands as any kind of good time. This basic rule of female preference is lost upon the titular male of The Brute (1977). This clueless lout treats his mate to a smattering of slugs, sneers, and stomping, then thinks he can sit back and coast! Little does he know that what he has started is not finished until his battered and crumpled woman has risen from the floor and proven that payback is a bitch. Turnaround is not only fair play, it’s a lady’s prerogative.
