Steambath (1972), the TV adaptation of Bruce Jay Friedman's off-Broadway play, justified the entire existence of PBS. Bill Bixby and some strangers unexpectedly wake up in a steambath. They don’t know how they got there or when they got there, all they know is that it’s getting’ hot in here! They try to find a way out and, as you can imagine, there isn’t one. Our sweaty stars begin telling each other their stories and we slowly realize—along with them—that they might be in the afterlife. But if they’re in the afterlife, then who’s God? Can it be . . . the attendant picking up the towels? This is one of those great stories that could only be made in the wacky, wonderful '70s!
