Vanessa Redgrave and Katharine Hepburn lead an all-star cast in Mihalis Kakogiannis’s commanding adaptation of a famous Euripides play, The Trojan Women (1971). Following the devastating fall of Troy, the conquering forces sweep into the city in order to divide the spoils of war. Once the riches are dispersed, the marauders turn to the real bounty––Troy’s spectacularly beautiful women. Roger Ebert makes the claim that a better cast than Hepburn, Redgrave, Geneviève Bujold, and Irene Papas probably doesn’t exist, and The Trojan Women makes it hard to argue with the man. Papas in particular looks sensational as she bares her flesh for an ogling guard.
