Review

A faithful Catholic wrestles with the religious implications of his messy romantic life in Hasta que el matrimonio nos separe (1977), a Spanish comedy distributed internationally as Till Divorce Us Do Part. Miguel (José Sacristán) makes the sinful mistake of divorcing his pregnant wife, but he gets off the hook because the Church never officially recognized his marriage. The second time’s not so lucky, however, as his new flame refuses to divorce her current husband before hopping into the sack with Miguel. St. Peter might have some choice words at heaven’s gate, but in the meantime our hero’s really making a go of it. Roxanne Bach, Cristina Galbó, and María Luisa San José represent three of his conquests, and all three are quite fully represented during their time on screen.
