Cool Kate Nelligan was born in the Great White North and began her career North of the border before hightailing it for England. That brought her to the U.S. to pursue an acting career both onstage and in movies and television. She got the sexy role of Lucy in Dracula (1979), but her career didn't take off until she got on the Al Pacino/Michelle Pfeiffer vehicle Frankie and Johnny (1991). Playing a mattress-hopping wiseacre waitress, Kate exposed her comic side, which allowed her to break out of the icy-cold mold that she was seemingly trapped in. Next, she landed a role in Barbra Streisand's The Prince of Tides (1991), which garnered her an Oscar nod.
