Ennui and underachievement seem to be defining characteristics of a fragmented segment of the post-punk generation, and these twin symptoms of societal disconnect are certainly emotional touchstones for the unmoored miss whose sedentary wanderings are followed in Naked Jane (1995). Barely pecking out a subsistence living as a typist, Jane writes a novel in her off time. Comforted hardly at all by a boyfriend who is living on another continent, Jane indulges a noncommittal dalliance with a man closer to home. Unsure of her heart’s desires, baffled by the needs of her soul, Jane doesn’t want to be pushed, not until she grasps some idea of where she wants to go.
