Raymond Chandler’s private dick has been given many faces over the years, but James Garner may win the title for best Philip Marlowe. It’s not his performance, which is great, but the movie, Marlowe (1969), which is based on the book The Little Sister. Still, it’s Rita Moreno who deserves the attention here. Garner catches her in a most revealing striptease. Rita only gets as far as her pasties and thong before being collared by the infamously cool cop. He should have at least copped a feel first.
