It is the curse of the environmentalist that the people who live in the regions he is attempting to preserve want no truck with him or his cause. In Arctic Blue (1993), a well-meaning land lover has traveled to the remote Alaskan back country on a mission of preservation. Through no fault other than being decent, law abiding, and a believer in the system of American justice, the nature saver is enlisted to transport a suspected killer from an isolated outpost and into the hands of city-bound authorities. The route to civilization is obscure and treacherous, as are the trappers stationed along the way and committed to freeing their captive comrade. The survival of the fittest has never been less a theory and more a reality to the ecological scientist.
