Spanish filmmaker Juan Carlos Fresnadillo takes the reigns for 28 Weeks Later (2007), a high-octane sequel to UK director Danny Boyle's 2003 hit 28 Days Later (2002). After a plague turns London into a cesspool of rampaging zombies, U.S.-led NATO forces secure a section of the city and declare it free of infection. Robert Carlyle plays a survivor who learns that his wife's blood may hold the key to creating an anti-zombie serum, but first he and their kids have to survive being hunted down by flesh-hungry ghouls and trigger-happy security squadrons. Wild action, apocalyptic visuals, and naked bodies—belonging to both the living and the not-quite-so-living—combine to make 28 Days Later an appointment worth keeping.
