The low-budget epic Blackenstein (1973) made an impressive profit, despite--or due to--a tacky storyline in which a disabled Vietnam vet is given a chance to get new arms and legs. Big Joe De Sue stars as the hapless guinea pig who gets screwed over when a doctor’s weasely assistant develops a crush on his fiancée. The creep messes with Joe’s medications and soon turns the poor guy into a patchwork monster on a rampage. Of course, a gal like Ivory Stone is worth rampaging over. This amazing film also stops cold for a few comedy routines and features former moll Liz Renay in an amazing bit part. Dale Bach also provides a signature ’70s moment as a sexy (but non-nude) gal in a dune buggy.
