Imprudent distribution and consumption of recreational narcotics have ruined many a supper party, but none more so than the drug-addled meal at the center of Canadian creep-out The Invitation (2001). The host of director Pat Bermel's darkly atmospheric, invitation-only dinner tells his guests of a sojourn in distant South American jungle land. Aboriginal Peruvian pushers dosed the tale teller with a heady chemical and refused to administer the antidote until he had grappled with his stoned demons and come to a higher bliss. Wouldn't it be cool if the whole party took a trip to the next elevation of spiritual evolution? Here's a hint: If a crazed world traveler ever presents you with this suggestion, decline and run.
