Tommy Lee Jones was waiting for his comeback when he signed up to play a hardboiled detective in this Showtime production. Gotham (1988) had its perks, though--specifically the perky nips of Virginia Madsen as the former wife of a client. And that’s “former” as in “formerly living”, with Jones hired to keep the dead girl from haunting her sleazy husband. This mix of ghost story and film noir is rich in atmosphere and richer in Virginia’s groovy and ghoulish goodies. The corpse may be cold, but she’s still ready to ditch her clothes. Denise Stephenson also provides a Night of the Living Boobie as Jones’s perfectly good (and living) girlfriend.
