French New Wave legend Jean-Luc Godard directs Passion (1982), a cerebral inquiry into painting, filmmaking, lovemaking, and other probing issues. Jerzy Radziwilowicz plays an ambitious director shooting a made-for-TV film marked by a dull plot and colorless performances. The film’s evasive sub-plots involve a squelched romantic affair with Hanna Schygulla, a rabble-rouser’s (Isabelle Huppert) attempts at unionizing, and more. Serious cinephiles will find much to scratch their chins over, but everybody else can simply fast forward to the fleeting but unforgettable scenes featuring Moroccan-born beauty Myriem Roussel.
