Marriage is serious business. Meant to last a lifetime, the sacred union of one man to one woman is a bond in the eyes of the lord and a potentially financially devastating contract in a court of law. A subject weighted with consequences as profound as those of matrimony is like death itself: If you can't laugh at it, you are doomed to live in dread of it, which is why Seeing Other People (2004) deserves a public-service award on the level of a Pulitzer or Nobel Prize. Disguised as a frothy and teasing comedy about an engaged couple who agree to immerse themselves in separate ponds of sexual excess in the few weeks leading up to tying the knot, Seeing Other People actually manages to explore and illuminate the never-satisfied appetite for forbidden fruit while simultaneously catering to that sweet tooth of temptation.
