Vivian Naefe nabbed a Best Director award in her native Germany for the vivid tragicomedy Einer geht noch (2000). Set in a working-class hamlet in Germany’s Ruhr district, the film depicts the hardscrabble lives of mattress-factory employees and other blue-collar workers. When a premier sporting event--the Alemannen Cup--comes to their unassuming hometown, the inhabitants find that their class divisions are put in stark contrast. Of course, rich and poor alike can find common ground in the irresistible appeal of voluptuous female flesh. Maren Gingeleit, Stephanie Gossger, and Caroline Schreiber show off the good stuff in their slinky, seductive turns.
