In Love Comes Quietly (1973), American citizen Ben Hoeksema (Ralph Meeker) returns to his native Dutch village during the 1920s. Along for the journey is his very pregnant, very free-spirited daughter Angela, played by Barbara Hershey, who, in a brilliant method-acting maneuver, is actually knocked up—and she nakedly proves it! When Angela embarks on an affair with Harm-Wouter (Sandy van der Linden), the son of a local cheese-maker, the small-minded villagers gossip themselves into a frenzy that culminates with a heavy, quintessentially '70s bummer of a trip.
