I often wonder why we remember this series so fondly, since it really wasn’t very good back in the day and looks totally awful in modern times. 20th century astronaut Rogers (Gil Gerard) gets his sorry ass in a freak space accident which causes his craft to be blown 500 years into the future. When he comes back to Earth, he finds the place is recovering from a nuclear war and is now being laid waste to by the evil Draconian empire. The Draconian Empire? Man, we really weren’t very picky with our TV back in the late 70’s, were we? The series was based on the movie, which was based on the serials, which were based on the comic book… geez, does this never end? Erin Gray made for a tasty co-star… eventually. She didn’t want to reprise her movie role until such a time as she knew the show was a success, so she blew in about halfway through season one, and it set her on course for a long career in infomercials. The mere mention of her name has a certain ring to it and has me reaching for the phone wanting to buy something… anything, as long as it’s at a special price.
