With her audacious directorial debut, Maria von Heland proves that although Big Girls Don’t Cry (2002), they do get even. Anna Maria Mühe and Karoline Herfurth star as Kati and Steffi--two friends who grow inextricably close despite their divergent backgrounds. When the friends catch Steffi’s father in an extramarital affair, they decide that a bit of good old-fashioned revenge can help remedy the betrayal. The mischievous teens manipulate the adulteress’s daughter (Josefine Domes) into mixing with a notorious pornographer--a development with disastrous consequences for all involved. Perhaps unsurprisingly, close to all of the female leads shed their threads for nude or near-nude turns at some point in this steamy drama. Herfuth and Jennifer Ulrich go the full distance, while Domes and Mühe content themselves with more modest provocations.
