The 1980s are not that far behind us, but it is amazing how distant they can seem. Imagine an era when Jeff Goldblum would play the romantic male lead in a major feature film release, and then try to picture a time when Michelle Pfeiffer, as Jeff’s female co-star, could be depended upon to show her slim, shapely chair cheeks in the course of telling a compelling story. You can see it all in director John Landis’s outlandish Into the Night (1985). Loser nerd Goldblum inadvertently rescues Pfeiffer from deadly pursuers in the parking lot of Los Angeles International Airport, and the pair embark upon a movie-long chase scene that is every bit as excessive and entertaining as the long-gone, recent decade that spawned it.
