Is any condition of human existence worse than being dead? Such is the question resoundingly addressed in Beast of the Yellow Night (1971). Like the rest of us, Yellow Night’s protagonist eventually arrives at his inevitable demise. But the dearly departed has been singled out for special attention by the great one of all evil intentions. The lord of the netherworld offers to grant the fresh arrival an extension of his time aboveground, but only on the condition that the reanimated mortal swear unwavering allegiance to the Beast. The deal sours after a few decades of corrupting innocents and draining the blood from at least one sucker per day, but what’s a mere indentured zombie to do? It’s not nice to renege on Satan.
