Set among the South Asian immigrant population of London, the magical realist drama My Beautiful Laundrette (1985) tells the story of Omar (Gordon Warnecke), a young Pakistani from a wealthy family who’s running his uncle’s Laundromat with the help of a lower-class gay punk named Johnny (Daniel Day-Lewis).
