Paired on DVD with the equally bizarre B-treat Fiend of Dope Island (1961), Barry Mahon’s Pagan Island (1961) is an erotic wish-fulfillment fantasy masquerading as a tropical action-adventure. Eddie Dew stars as William Stanton, the lone survivor of a deadly shipwreck. Washed ashore on the beaches of an unexplored desert island, Stanton quickly learns that he’s not alone––lusty native babes prepared to do his bidding populate the island. Mahon (who’s frequently compared to the king of inept direction, Ed Wood) never properly explains why the “natives” are all Caucasian, but logic isn’t the goal here––sex is. At least, that explains the scantily clad, skinny-dipping ways of female co-stars Allison Louise Downe, Trine Hovelsrud, and Nani Maka.
