High-school chemistry class was a place of dreams. Strapping boys on the verge of manhood attempted to concentrate upon the experiments on hand, but their minds insisted upon drifting off to higher considerations, to the hypothesis presented by Weird Science (1985). In this, the most-lowbrow of director John Hughes’s high-school flicks, two geek pals change their lives and shape the fantasies and envies of nerds worldwide by creating a physically perfect woman using little more than a pair of computers and adolescent ingenuity. The typical boy geniuses would stop right there, but the heroes of Weird Science go on to learn valuable life lessons, mature, and snag age-appropriate girlfriends on their own without any high-tech hocus-pocus.
