This film noir from France sees detective François Manéri hot on the trail of missing art student Rachel. As the dark and smoky Une Affaire privée (2002) moves inexorably toward its mindbending conclusion, François finds himself in a black world of busted dreams and uncertain truth. Marion Cotillard plays Clarisse to great effect, especially when she’s busy barin’ the bazoombas. This is an interesting take on an old genre.
