Love and sex make the world go around, but as seen in Unfaithful (2002), the forces of profound physical affection can also make worlds fall apart. Mix in betrayal, deception, jealousy, adultery, and inexpressible anguish, and what has started out as a loving impulse may burst forth as a murderous rage. Then the loving protagonists have a corpse to dispose of and a bone of domestic contention that will be very difficult to broach during a session of couples therapy. Director Adrian Lyne has created a stylish, lust-inducing (particularly during adulterous Diane Lane’s masturbation and cheat scenes) Manhattan-based morality tale-slash-revenge drama that shows just how out of hand a bit of fun can become.
