Back when Hedy Lamarr was Hedy Keisler, and nudity was reserved for French postcards and dirty decks of playing cards, Czech director Gustav Machaty tossed out the erotic firecracker Ecstasy (1932). Hedy plays a young bride who decides to have an affair after discovering that her husband is impotent. With ads of the day declaring it "the most whispered about picture in the world," Ecstasy got the attention of MGM and made an overnight sensation of hottie Hedy. Full-frontal nudity on screen in 1932? That must've been pure ecstasy indeed.
