Wistfully blonde and wickedly baby-faced Dutch thespian Anne van de Ven moves through the duration of Venus in Furs (1994) with sensual grace, a composure born of erotic confidence and the barest minimum of clothing. A relationship drama focusing almost exclusively upon sexual dynamics, Venus in Furs is directed by the tandem Netherlander team of Victor Nieuwenhuijs and Maartze Seyferth and shot in a gently lit black-and-white that is all the warmer for its absence of color and all the more tender for its semi-hardcore S&M subject matter. Prepare to be whipped into a subdued frenzy and tied up in knots of yearning.
