Sometimes all a striving young actress needs is one director with vision to give her one chance, and then she is off to stardom. Such was the circumstance of eye-pleasing French twist Brigitte Lahaie. The long blonde bombshell had established her skills in the milieu of porno sexploitation, but she ached for the legitimacy of high-brow acceptance. Where others saw only a face and body capable of drawing drool from a dead man, director Jean Rollin recognized the spark of dramatic greatness. Rollin took a chance on Lahaie, casting the untested beauty in The Grapes of Death (1978). Stumbling through the night-lit countryside, pursued by a pack of murderous zombies, Brigitte Lahaie escapes with flying colors, if not fully clothed.
