In Women in Love (1969) Glenda Jackson and Jennie Linden are two sisters in post-WWI London who don’t have very many men to choose from as suitors. They end up pairing with Oliver Reed and Alan Bates. These homoerotic pals have their own strange notions about relationships, though. All the assorted couplings lead to lots of big questions and issues--but don’t expect to nod off during this film. Director Ken Russell makes sure that his D.H. Lawrence adaptation is always compelling. There’s also some stunning nudity from Jackson, whose daring work won her the 1971 Academy Award for Best Actress.
