Juliusz Machulski's Superproduction: Behind the Scenes of a Scandal (2003) is a satiric send-up of the Polish film industry starring Rafal Królikowski as a caustic critic who makes a costly error when he agrees to write a script for a mob boss (Piotr Fronczewski). Though Rafal loves to hold forth on his talk show about the all-around cruddiness of Polish cinema and its rubbish scripts, he thinks nothing of slapping together a screenplay for the scoundrel, who is just looking for a vehicle for his beautifully breasticled bimbo, a former Miss Fitness played by Anna Przybylska. Rafal writes the kind of script a nasty-tempered cineaste would, but his underworld overlord isn't going to put up with any of that artsy-fartsiness on his dirty dime. He imprisons Rafal and demands that he cough up a crowd pleaser. A tale of talentless tartlets, crooked money men, and a passel of film-world phonies, Superproduction: Behind the Scenes of a Scandal is a treat for anyone who's familiar with the Polish film scene . . . but it isn't much in the way of teats, pleats, or seats.
