There is no safe career path in a highly competitive, insanely remunerative industry such as the music racket. Ambitious and ethics-less young maverick Kurt "Dirt" Merchant thinks all his sexiest, greediest dreams are on pace to come true simply because he has landed a career in a record-company mailroom. The twists and burns of Dirt Merchant (1999) begin with the eponymous protagonist being canned from his job and are ratcheted up when he is named suspect number one in the murder of a scruffy rock star.
