Madonna stars as spoiled socialite Amber in Swept Away (2002), her husband Guy Ritchie’s remake of the 1974 Italian romantic comedy Travolti da un insolito destino nell'azzurro mare d'agosto. Amber is on an island cruise with her husband and vents her boredom on the ship’s communist first mate, Giuseppe (Adriano Giannini). But the tables are turned when a shipwreck strands Amber and Giuseppe on the same desert island, and soon they fall in love.
