Distributed internationally as The Landlords, Remi Waterhouse’s charming French comedy Mille millièmes (2002) tracks the comings and goings of a quirky batch of apartment occupants. Among the characters are a love-struck pair (Jean-Pierre Darroussin and Valerie Stroh) whose amorous ambitions are thwarted by their landlord, a charismatic concierge (Luis Rego) worried about pending job cuts, and a widow who attempts to let personal tragedy get her out of paying her rent. Naturally no apartment building omnibus is complete without a dash of voyeurism, which is why Irène Jacob shows up to playfully moon the camera.
