Three very different women with a shared past converge at a Baltic Sea resort in the wistful dramatic film Katzenzungen (2003). Claire (Ina Weisse), Nora (Birge Schade), and Dodo (Meret Becker) couldn’t be more different, but they grew up in the same small, provincial town and experienced the same highs and lows of adolescence. Their vacation on the Baltic predictably turns into a journey into a shared past as the three women explore their sometimes contentious friendship. There’s even a bit of unspoken erotic tension between these friends--the simmering feelings come briefly to the surface when a nude, bathing Claire gets a kiss on the mouth from one of her gal pals.
