Mothers, priests, and teachers will preach that telling the truth is the best policy, but if everybody stuck to the straight and narrow of full credibility, the world would be deprived of the plotlines of cinematic delights such as La Vida de nadie (2002). Throughout history dishonesty has led to the most fascinating true-life and fictional plot developments, and the steady tightening of La Vida de nadie’s noose-like storyline turns on the escalating fibs spun out by a charlatan who would have the world perceive him as an honest and successful businessman; a doting, caring father; and a devoted, faithful husband. Needless to say, this conflicted protagonist is far more interesting than is the person he attempts to pass himself off as.
