Adapted from a Gothic Southern novel by Matthew F. Jones, the neo-noir Deep Water (2005) is both beautiful to look at and engaging for a low-budget feature. Peter Coyote is a rural tycoon and takes this drama into the deep waters of the weirdly mysterious. Naturally a drifter swims into these deep waters when he saves Coyote from a bad road accident. And, as any fan of the genre knows, there’s a dark-haired femme fatale to knock you off your feet like being blindsided by a rouge wave. What a way to go!
